This behavioral clip chart is a huge part of my classroom management system. It is very effective at the preschool and kinder level. I saw something similar on Pinterest but I added a couple more levels (Think about it, Very Good Day) to either side in order to make a wider spectrum. It is low to the ground so the students can move their own clips.
Recently I added a mailbox to our classroom. I had a discussion with my students about the U.S. Postal Service and how mail works. The kids were really intrigued as many of them have never gotten a letter in the mail before. We then officially started our in class mail service. The students love it! They write each other compliments, put who it is to, from, and a "stamp" at the top. I have models of how an envelop is laid out, how to write a letter, and compliment starters on a bulletin board behind the mailbox. This has been a great opportunity for the students to learn how to format a letter (or at least try :). It also is a fun way to encourage writing development. It has helped with their phonics and spelling skills. It also helps create such a safe and encouraging classroom environment.
So I had several old bulletin boards at my disposal... and this is what I came up with. There is a hook for each letter of the alphabet. Then there are two pockets to hold the cards. The cards have a hole punched in the top so they can hang on the hooks. Each card has an image/picture of an item. The students then place the card on the correct hook for the starting letter. The students love it! It is good for a center, game, or classroom circle time activity. I got the cards at the dollar store (they were alphabet flashcards) and just cut the letter off the bottom. I also made some of my own but after trying both, I decided it was cheaper to buy a pack at the dollar store than print them all. I also have selected images of three letter words (dog, sun, cat, etc.) and had the students hang it on the peg of the vowel sound. There are a lot of ways to mix it up but it provides a great tactile and visual experience with phonemic awareness and letter recognition.
![]() Chevron Borders: I love using chevron borders in my classroom! These are some borders that I created. Get this one for free in my TPT store! These work great for worksheets, borders, labels, bulletin board decorations, and tons of other things around the classroom. See the link below to download yours for free! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Blue-and-Green-Chevron-Border-1639883 ![]() Today my kiddos planted their lima beans! Over the last two weeks we had been going through the process of germination. Once they had taken root (literally), each student got to plant one in the community pot and take the other one home in their own pot. They had a blast! It was a great time for them to observe up close the root systems and learn how to properly take care of plants.
![]() Here is my latest bulletin board. It is on word families. I did a town theme. Each house was a different word family and the street, car, and tree also had word families. I thought it turned out really cute and it works well to teach the students about different word families and how the words inside each family relate. It would also be great to make interactive. It is too high on the wall in my classroom for being interactive but it would be really great to have velcro images of words for each family that the students could place with the correct word families. |
